It bothered me in 2016 when I first visited this site, and it bothers me now that my friend Joyce didn't have any comments or memories posted.  Therefore, I'm finally (and semi-painfully) climbing out of my introvert shell to rectify.  My family moved to Arkansas from New Jersey at the end of our 8th grade year.  When I started at Mt, I knew one girl I had met in my neighborhood, and one I had met at Horace Mann in the slightly over one month I went there to complete 8th grade.  The neighborhood friend moved after our freshman year, and my Horace Mann acquaintance and I did not have classes together or see much of each other.  I remember my first sight of Joyce.  She was hard to miss, since she stood every bit of 6 ft. tall, and her height was amplified by the fact that she was walking with her fellow St. Theresa's alumna, Shannon Knox, who is barely over 5 ft.  Our own resident "Mutt and Jeff", although Joyce and Shannon were intelligent and lovely, of course!  I was welcomed into their circle.  It was a rare gift from kids of our ages then. I look back on my high school years fondly.  I was happy there.  Joyce's warmth, humor, and open heart were a big part of that.  She, Shannon, Janet Hart, and my "sister" Theresa Kelsay were the best friends one could wish for.  Others came and went, and I remember them all fondly, but that circle lasted throughout.  Thank you Joyce. And thank you for the navy eyeshadow that one Christmas as you gently tried to hint me off of my bright turquoise.

then MayTammy~
That was a BEAUTIFUL tribute to Joyce!

I didn't have classes with, nor did I have the pleasure of knowing her like you did. However, having moved from Belleville , IL in 4th grade to Good Counsel grade school, I know about those friends who reached out to embrace you... for me , it was my next door neighbor , Sue Mroz! My best friend! Then Mary Castleberry & Ann Thompson !
some of these remain my dear friends after 40 years!
