I lost my best friend in the world this week.  Greg and I have known each other since the first grade at St.Theresa's in Little Rock.  Even back then we all knew that one day he would be a priest (he finally told me this week that he felt the call to the priesthood as early as the age of 5).  He is the only one of my classmates that I kept in regular contact with over the years.  Whenever Greg needed a respite from the overwhelming tasks of running a parish, he was always welcome at our house for one day or several.  We played cards (cribbage) or went fishing or just sat around and talked until late into the night.  He and my wife, Paula, would get into some pretty lively discussions that I loved to observe.  My entire family has always felt close to the Hart family and Greg in particular.  He was as much a sibling to me as any of my blood relatives and I think that he felt the same about me and Paula as well as the other Gallaghers.  There are so many stories to tell that I could go on for hours but I won't.  Suffice it to say that I loved Greg and he will be greatly missed.  When my wife and I talked with him this past Sunday night, he stated that, God willing, his passing would allow him to be there to welcome us into eternal life when it was our time. Even in death Greg was thinking of others.  Truly a great holy man has left us.  Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.

Matt,

Sorry to hear this news about Greg. It was good seeing you both at the Alumni dinner last year. You are a great friend. God Bless.

The last alum dinner I was siting at the table, and Gregg was siting next to me. I needed something to drink .I expressed this, not to Gregg, but just in passing. Gregg  got up and in that moment I didn't know why. A few moments later he came and sat down next to me with a drink in his hand and gave it to me. I was humbled and astonished .In that momment, I realized  this man, one of my peers was surely a man of GOD.

May he rest in THE PEACE of Christ Jesus ,and I pray that we will sit at the everlasting feast of our Lord and Savior  Jesus Christ  Amen...
